Howden - Winter

Howden is one of three reservoirs in the Ladybower Reservoir system which together form the largest body of water in the Peak District.  The water is overlooked by the dramatic line of Ladybower Edge, a favourite route for hill walkers.  The simplified shapes and colours used in this painting, rendered in light-toned colours on a much darker base colour, create an almost textile-like surface, from which colours glow, evoking the chill silence of winter.
